Built To Last

The buzz of lawnmowers throughout the neighborhood means just one thing – Spring is here!  Time for new life and fresh starts.  Here are some things I’ve been thinking about.

Asteroid mining!  No, this is not science fiction – it’s real.  And beyond cool.

Planetary Resources, a Redmond, Washington company, is working toward mining asteroids for water and metals – and creating history at the same time.

Using robotic spacecraft equipped with artificial intelligence, Planetary Resources has already launched several test vehicles into outer space.

I have always loved the look of the early Ford Bronco (’66-’77).  In 1987 I had the opportunity to buy a 1969 Bronco from a kid who needed to get out from his payments – it was my lucky day!

With a 302 V8 engine, three in the tree, and power nuthin’, it is almost stock – except that a previous owner cut the rear wheel wells.  I think they look better that way.  It has been repainted, but with the original aqua color.

She’s my baby.  She only comes out of the garage on warm, sunny days.  I’ve been offroading with my Bronco only a few times, years ago.  Nowadays I don’t want to take a chance with her getting hurt, so she stays on paved roads.

My kids (now grown) rode in the back seat when they were toddlers.  On sunny days we would cruise around town, and they would put their hands in the air and yell “faster!”, but what they really meant was “louder!”

Sometimes I find notes on my windshield from people offering to buy my Bronco.  Yeah, that’s not going to happen.

When you find something built with quality and attention to detail, you don’t let it go.  That’s true for both trucks and database applications.  We try to design and build systems that last a long time.

Going Virtual

A few months ago we moved out of our physical office and went completely virtual! No, that doesn’t mean that we are all CGI characters (we are still real humans), but it does mean that we no longer gather to work at a permanent office.
