Providence Health & Services Case Study

Providence Health Service

Providence Health & Services, a large hospital network, was in need of overhauling their old system of importing and researching financial transactions. The old system was no longer viable—endless workarounds and complex spreadsheets were causing significant delays. Stakeholders saw the opportunity to start from scratch and design a robust, highly-intuitive web application, and restructure their workflows for transaction research. After a detailed Architectural Framework discovery project, we produced a state-of-the-art transaction system that imports millions of transactions (from multiple financial institutions) and supports dynamic searching and reporting.  Providence can now research transaction history with ease.

Need:

Architect, plan, and design a new transaction research system for use by finance professionals and other key stakeholders.

Solution:

A brand new, modern web application to support the full scope of transaction research activities.

Technologies used:

SQL Server, ASP.NET MVC Core.

Upon accessing the system, users are greeted by the Secure login page with a forgotten password feature.
Transactions
The transaction search allows users to filter using many parameters and review specific transactions and accounts. Search results are returned and can be viewed in detail with a single click.
Transaction Details
The Transaction Detail page allows the user to view full information related to a specific transaction, including Transaction ID, Amount, Card Details, and Chargeback returned payment information.
Batches
Users can also filter and search through batches of thousands of imported transactions through the Batch Search page.
Pending transactions are uploaded and gathered through the Imports page. The list shows transactions that have not been processed or reviewed, and users can search specific imports through multiple filter parameters.
Administration
The Merchants screen allows users to view payments initiated at businesses subsidiary to Providence’s healthcare services, including hospital cafés, gift shops, and fitness centers.
Transaction Search
The application is responsive to mobile devices allowing users to view transaction data from their phone. This is a standard feature of all J Street web applications. Above is the mobile view of the Transactions Search page.
Import Transactions

Import Volume History
The Import History Report allows users to query the volume of regularly scheduled transaction Imports.
